Sweden win in Oslo, now onto Rotterdam

By April 13, 2018No Comments

SWEDEN Roosters have taken out the Oslo Open Nines, beating rugby union team Sagene in the final; now it’s onto Rotterdam.

Wearing Sydney Roosters jerseys, the Swedish Nines squad had a few close calls on the way to the decider at Sandvolleyballanlegget.

They played Porsgrunn twice during the day’s play, edging past the Pirates 6-4 and 12-6. Sagene made the final despite being flogged 35-0 by Sandnes along the way.

In a hard-fought match, Sweden lifted the trophy with a 10-0 win.

The Nines World Circuit rolls into Stichting Sparta Schollebos, the new home of the Rotterdam Pitbulls for a full day of action tomorrow.

While one of the German sides originally mentioned as participating seems to have not made it to the starting line, it’s still an extremely cosmopolitan competition with teams from Holland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Germany and England.

The teams competing are Rotterdam Pitbulls, Harderwijk Dolphins, Amsterdam Cobras, North Brussels Gorillas, RLC Dragons, Ragbi Klub Dorćol, TSV Karlshöfen and Eastern Rhinos.

The Rotterdam Nines take place on a single field. Under a revised competition structure, all teams will have three chances to stay in the championship via repechage.

London’s Wests Warriors won the tournament last year.
