Spanish Nines cancelled

By September 10, 2018No Comments

AN international Nines tournament planned for Valencia next month has been unexpectedly cancelled.
The Spanish Rugby League Nines were to be held at Nova Sports Resort in Valencia. Invitations had been extended to a number of teams and social media accounts were active.
The plan had been to combine the event with a World Cup Qualifier at the same venue between Spain and Russia on the same weekend.
But the @Spanish9s Twitter account recently posted: “Due to circumstances out of our control this event is cancelled.”
No other information has been given; rugbyleaguenines.com understands political issues within the Spanish Rugby League played a role in the decision.
Earlier this year, organisers of a Nines event in Leeds were also forced to abandon the tournament when teams pulled out.
Another tournament planned for October, Ruggerfest at Santa Rosa California, has also gone worryingly quiet.
The next confirmed tournament is the Budapest Nines on October 16.
