EIGHTEEN-Nil. That’s the main thing you need to know about the Chinandega Nines, which resumed in Nicaragua on Sunday.

Of the four games played at San Carlos Sports Field, three finished with that scoreline in the second round of the competition. Monseraptors were victors in two of these games, beating BigOne twice while in the third 18-0 game; Mercenarios were on the other end of the other shut-out, at the hands of Diablos.

The day’s play started with Mercenarios beating Diablos 18-6.

Round two results mean the ladder remains the same with Mercenarios leading followed by Monseraptors, Diablos Rojos then BigOne.

“Frank Urroz is the man behind the Chinandega Nines and has worked tirelessly to ensure the events have gone ahead with full COVID safety protocols,” spokesman Chris Reid said

“Round three kicks off on April 25th which will be the last round before the finals which will see a team awarded the Novosports Trophy.

“Preliminary talks are underway for a Managua Nines tournament in the capital later in the year. Regionalised tournaments are a necessity at the moment because of the travel restrictions due to COVID.”
