RUGBY League Nines’ tilt at world domination continued at the weekend when tournaments were held in Serbia and Samoa.
The Vailima Marist Fantastic Nines in Apia were contested for the fifth time at Marist Sports Club, with Saints taking out the men’s competition and Apia Maroons winning the women’s. Each retained titles they won in 2020.
The women’s final saw a 22-7 win for the Maroons over Marist Angels while the men’s decider was Marist Saints beating Matniuel Lions 23–14.
In Belgrade at the weekend, the Red Star club split its Under 15s squad into two with a Nines encounter. ‘Red’ beat ‘Blue’ 16-12.
Nines tournaments have so far this year been held in the Cook Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji Ghana, India, Serbia and Samoa.
