A rejuvenated club has its hands on silverware in women’s rugby league in Britain, with Wigan scoring a crushing win in the Nines final at Hull.

The Warriors last won the Super League title in 2018 and since then the likes of St Helens, York and Leeds have dominated the scene. with the latter two winning the first two Nines titles.

But Wigan went through the finals day at Sewell Group Craven Park undefeated, dispatching York, Huddersfield, Cardiff and finally Leeds 21-0 in the decider. All day they conceded just eight points, to York in their first match, while scoring a mammoth 118.

The final was deadlocked until Eva Hunter scored seven minutes in. Grace Banks scored straight after the break and from there the cherry and whites weren’t headed.

Earlier, Cardiff eliminated 17-9 in the round robin stages of the play-offs.
