CARDIFF, York, St Helens and Wigan are through to the RFL women’s Nines finals at Salford on July 27, with two more teams to be added.

They were the clubs who topped the four groups during the preliminary rounds at Victoria Park in Warrington on May 5. Two wildcards are awarded, usually to the teams with the next best records from the early rounds.

One of the most important games of the entire day was first up, St Helens edging out 11-6 with tries to Katie Mottershead and Leah Burke. Matty Smith’s team went on to finish the day undefeated, as did Cardiff Demons. Among their victims were Super League teams Barrow and Featherstone.

York Valkyrie, winners in 2022, were held to a 12-12 draw by Leigh but still progressed. Wigan were undefeated.
