RHONDDA OUTLAWS didn’t need to play a final to claim the South Wales Men’s Nines in Neath.
The two two sides in the four-team tournament were supposed to meet in a final on Saturday but Aberavon Fighting Irish could not raise nine men due to a heavy injury toll.
The reluctantly forfeited, handing the title to Rhondda.
The Outlaws had an unbeaten run through pool play, beating Aber Valley 42-0, Aberavon 25-0 and Black Dragons 18-8. That last game was one that Black Dragons, the hosts, needed to win to force a final.
Ian Golden reports that referee Mason Apsee was called up to play at one point!
