THEY are returning to the Midlands league this year after playing in Yorkshire and Sherwood Wolf Hunt’s merry men confirmed their prodigal son status on Saturday.
The Wolf Hunt, named after the King’s Wolf Hunt Cottage which was situated at Mansfield Woodhouse in Medieval times, won the men’s division at Broadstreet Rugby Club in Coventry and was runner-up in the men’s social division.
The men – whose captain Ryan Hill was ruled out of the final with concussion, held on 20-10 over Loughborough University in the main final and succumbed 10-8 to the same opposition in the social decider.
“To play 20-minute games five times over, sometimes with five-minutes breaks and sometimes with an hour’s gap, isn’t easy by any means,” coach Glenn Holt told the club’s website. “I’m incredibly proud of not just the team, but the club overall to come here and achieve what we have.”
The women’s final was contested by the Royal Airforce and local girls Midlands Hurricanes – who were having their first ever outing.
In a brutal and injury-strewn contest, the Airforce won 12-10.
