2021 Sydney Nines Pool A: IRELAND 10 MALTA 0

Recap

IRELAND drew first blood in the Sydney Nines with all their points scored in the final five minutes against Malta.

The Wolfhounds were unlucky to have a couple of earlier tries disallowed but with fulltime approaching, scores in the Pool A match at New Era Stadium were still locked at 0-0.

That changed with Irishman Brendan Osborne skirted crossfield on his own side of halfway before straightening up and splitting the tiring Maltese defence. Osborne touched down between the posts and converted himself.

The Knights had a chance to draw level after the restart but fumbled, a left-side raid putting the result beyond doubt when Kayne Brennan scored his side’s second try as the siren rang out. It went unconverted.
