2021 Sydney Nines men’s final: Cabramatta 18 Ozzy Cooks 14

Recap

A BRANDING change for the tournament meant the name of hosts Cabramatta was removed from the trophy at the Sydney Nines.

That was, unless, the team beat the odds to win the international tournament that’s been running on their front doorstep since 2003.

And sure enough, the Two Blues shaped up to Ozzy Cooks when all was said and done at New Era Stadium – they played out a thriller as the shadows lengthened in western Sydney.

Big Diego Papa got the ball rolling for Cabramatta after the Cooks allowed the kick-off to go dead, with Justin Masters hitting back from a scrum for the expat Kikis.

The sides then traded tries in the fading light, with daring kicks to the wings setting up Uiti Baker (Cooks) and the match winner to Dominic Ayoub (Cabramatta) with less than two minutes remaining.

The Kukis still had the chance to take the ball up the other end and send the match into overtime, Cabramatta players leaping in the air and hugging each other when their opponents came up with an error.
