A NINES tournament in the Central Dabaris region of Papua New Guinea has been delayed for a second time because of Covid.
The Central Dabaris Agarobe Nines were originally scheduled for November 9 to 14 last year but was put back to 2022 because of a surge in the virus.
Now it’s been put back again as the PNG government bans “all major gatherings” in the country. A massive six-day tournament with dozens of times, the Central Dabaris Agarobe Nines certainly fit that description.
“The decision was made following a meeting with zone coordinators on Friday,” Central Dabaris programmes coordinator Indy Verena said in a statement to the media.
“The tournament is deferred to Feb 28 to March 4 while registrations close on Feb 4.”
In all, the prize purse for the tournament amounts to 20,000 kina.
One tournament that did go ahead at the weekend is the Dadi Toka Pepsi Nines Challenge in Port Moresby. TI Vikings of Tatana Waidex to claim the main title.
